"I just wanted to write and say thank-you for a wonderful time this past weekend! I was one of the many quilters who enjoyed your facilities, and wanted to compliment you and the rest of the staff on the great service I received! Everyone I spoke to was so friendly and helpful, the food was absolutely delicious, the surrounds relaxing and comfy and the service just top-notch! Well done to you all, and already I'm looking forward to the 2008 Quilt-In! Thanks again"

Jan Williams, October 2007

"As you can see we had a fantastic time and cannot thank Simon and Ann and their staff especially Trudy and David. Everyone was so helpful and it made my life so much easier. Also thank you for your help, your efforts were great."

Relax and rejuvenate at The Cumberland Marysville

The Cumberland Marysville is one of Victoria's favourite holiday destinations and offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities for all the seasons of the year.

Nestled in the heart of Marysville and surrounded by pristine forests, lush valleys, and abundant wildlie, The Cumberland and Villa Day Spa is a great destination for a Romantic Getaway, a mid week escape or a holiday with friends or family.

The beautiful township of Marysville is steeped in history dating back to the Victorian goldrush and remnants of the period can still be seen in the surrounding forests.

The gardens at The Cumberland

For the active and energetic there is year round bushwalking through the Yarra Ranges National Park and famous Cathedral Ranges, cycling in and around the town, trout fishing in one of the many mountain streams close to town, trail rides, golf and skiing at nearby Lake Mountain.

So much also for the youngsters with a BMX track in the centre of town, and The Old Fashioned Lolly Shop rich in specialty sweets from generations past ... an absolute must. And any stay in Marysville is not complete without a day wandering through the magical Bruno's Sculpture Garden.

Marysville has something for everyone, all year round. The Cumberland Marysville reception staff will be happy to provide more information about the host of activities in and around the town, and provide additional printed material such as brochures and maps.

Introducing our new chef Michael Jaeger

We are very lucky to welcome Michael Jaeger to our team at The Cumberland. This year The Cumberland has won various awards at HMAA and the Murrindindi Tourism Awards and know that the addition of Michael to our management team will ensure that The Cumberland continues to achieve recognition for its excellent service, ambience, facilities, accommodation and food. Both leisure and corporate guests of The Cumberland have enjoyed wonderful food over the years; Ruby's restaurant is renowned as one of the best restaurants in the area and uses local fresh produce and offers the guest a memorable dining experience. We know that Michael will impress both our repeat guests as well as our new clientele.

Until recently, Michael was Executive Chef at venue which caters for up to 100 + guests for all meals and accommodation, and is situated in the heart of the Yarra Valley, a world renowned wine growing region, 50km east of Melbourne. He also recently worked as a casual chef at Badgers Brook winery restaurant - Bella Vedere Cucina, acclaimed this year in the The Age Good Food Guide as well as Gourmet Traveller.

Previously, Michael worked as a casual chef at another nearby venue, during which time the kitchen team were awarded chef's hats in The Age Good Food Guide.

Michael was also teaching apprentices and other students for a few years before working at Sacreble where Michael was able to rekindle his love of classic French cooking.

During the past 28 years Michael has been fortunate enough to work with and learn from some great chefs and bakers, and these skills, techniques and attitudes developed over the years, have been invaluable towards his success as a chef.

Michael's kitchen philosophy has always been to raise the standards of those he works with, rather than lower his own standards to fit in. Michael tries to always exceed the expectation of guests. During his 28 years cooking, he has worked in many kitchens - from fine dining à la carte restaurants, to banquet or high-volume pubs as well as resorts and nightclubs, and enjoyed conquering the challenges that the variety offers.
